Winston-Salem artist Mitzi Shewmake creates cement and terra cotta sculpture, relief sculpture, and pots for yard, garden and house. Her sculpture takes its imagery from myths and desert landscapes.

Mitzi was born in NYC, but grew up in Woodstock, NY and Tucson, AZ. She holds a BA degree from George Washington University in DC and an MA Degree in Fine Arts from the University of NC at Greensboro. In addition to her work in private collections she has bronze relief sculpture at Wake Forest University and at the NC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC.

Mitzi is emerita professor of art, Winston-Salem State University. While at the University, she was a founder and first director of Diggs Gallery.
